What has Mother Nature got up her sleeve?

With the first big storm of the season giving us a taste of what’s to follow, it’s time to start taking precautions. Not only can hail damage be costly & inconvenient but it will also make your precious ride look like a golf ball. If you see a storm looming, park your car under-cover. When heading to shopping centres, opt for covered parking, not only is this safer from a theft point of view, but it could save you from a looming storm that you can’t see coming whilst on your shopping spree. That small fee to use covered parking could save you a couple thousand on excess payments. For those that don’t remember the destructive hail storm in Oct 2012, see this video clip taken by a BIB Client … WATCH

Lightning strikes too, are you prepared for a lightning strike to your home or office? With the size and frequency of the storms we have been experiencing in the recent years, we encourage you to install additional lightning protection. Whether it is Surge Protection on your distribution board or protection plugs for your modems, ADSL lines, computers and electronics, this will save you time and money in the long run. The Spring thunderstorms could pounce at any time, so be prepared!  For further information on how to better protect your home and office, contact Ettiene Robinson from PHD Powerhouse Distributors on 011 346 1812 or ettiene@phdpowerhouse.co.za or visit the website.

Clearing your gutters and drains before the rainy season starts can save more than just money. The aggravation of having to deal with leaks that could so easily have been avoided by this simple precautionary measure is huge. There are many roofing companies who’ll be only too happy to take on this maintenance procedure for a small fee. While they’re on the roof, you can also ask them to check last year’s waterproofing. Remember that once the rains start, there is very little that can be done!

Barkers will be introducing an area specific BAD WEATHER WARNING sms service for all clients in November this year which will help us all to reduce storm related claims.

Be proactive, not reactive!
