More than 12 million South Africans will go to bed hungry tonight. 1 in 10 children suffer from severe malnutrition and die within the first 12 months of life! At Barker Insurance Brokers, it has become a tradition every year on the 18th of July to take time out of our busy days to give back and we have dedicated this year to help feed some hungry bellies.
Mandela day never ceases to inspire and motivate the gift of giving and even 67 minutes committed to giving back makes a difference. This year the festivities kicked off with the Commercial Team’s Scrumptious Soup. The team chopped, sliced and diced the ingredients for their hearty soup. The Personal Team were up next and whipped up a batch of good old fashioned hot dogs where about 67 hot dogs were made. Last but not least the Claims & Accounts team got to work making their Super Sarmies. The soup, hotdogs and sarmies were collected by Roger from "My Soul Provider" who distributed the food to various homeless shelters, soup kitchens etc. around Johannesburg.
What a great way to keep the light and purpose of late Nelson Mandela alive.
