Welcoming summer on the beautiful, sunny Spring Day of 2011 and celebrating BokDay as we bid farewell to the Bokke – a flood of excitement and anticipation covers the nation as the 2011 Rugby World Cup unfolds. Just as Nelson Mandela recognized sports as the collective language that could unite the nation, we once again are brought together as we show our support behind the Springboks as they venture off into foreign territory!
Nelson Mandela Square was packed with thousands of fans awaiting the team’s on-stage appearance, with a media frenzy catching all the live action and festivities. The enthusiasm and camaraderie at Barker Insurance Brokers on BokDay was no less as we all sported our green and gold official rugby shirts, ‘vuvuzelas’ and waved our South African flags as signs of our patriotism and support for Springboks.
We wish our Springbok rugby team the best of luck at the Rugby World Cup 2011. We know you have the strength, capabilities and determination, so bring back home the Cup where it belongs!
And for those of us who need a slight brush up on the words of the SA National Anthem…

Nkosi sikelel’ iAfrika
Maluphakanyisw’ uphondo lwayo,
Yizwa imithandazo yethu,
Nkosi sikelela,
thina lusapho lwayo.
Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso,
O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho,
O se boloke, O se boloke setjhaba sa heso,
Setjhaba sa South Afrika – South Afrika.
Uit die blou van onse hemel,
Uit die diepte van ons see,
Oor ons ewige gebergtes,
Waar die kranse antwoord gee,
Sounds the call to come together,
And united we shall stand,
Let us live and strive for freedom,
In South Africa our land.
