With Eskom increasing tariffs by over 30% per annum our electricity costs have soared in recent years and therefore we all need to become a lot more energy efficient. Our BIB Team have put a plan in place to save electricity at our office and in our homes. It is NOT as difficult as we initially imagined:
• We have fitted special insulation material INSUTHERM in our office ceiling which keeps us cooler in Summer and warmer in Winter & has saved approximately 20% on our monthly electricity usage. To find out more go to www.insutherm.co.za
• We all use cold water to wash our hands during the day which saves using hot water & electricity.
• We have replaced our two office geysers with Heat Pumps which will save us an additional 67% on the normal geyser electricity consumption.
• We have trimmed some bushes & branches blocking sunlight getting into our office’s north facing glass windows. This has added lots of additional natural light and warmth to the office.
• We have replaced Eskom power supply totally on our farm just North of Britz with a solar array which generates electricity through inverters and hot water is created by Solar water heaters (see photographs below)
In an attempt to reduce electricity consumption countrywide, Eskom have introduced huge rebates if we replace our current geysers with either Heat Pumps or Solar heating devices.
