Established in 2014, Hope Distillery was the first licensed small batch distillery in Cape Town and is one of the pioneers of the South African gin landscape.
The local duo behind the gin brand sensation are wife and husband, Lucy Beard and Leigh Lisk. Living abroad in London as lawyers for many years, the couple decided to pack in their corporate lifestyle and set off in a camper van to Southern Europe. It was on this adventure that they were acquainted with the global gin craze.
Adamant not to return to the corporate world, they contemplated turning their hands to distilling. As the gin revolution was yet to reach South Africa, their timing would be ideal…
From humble beginnings, Hope Gin now not only creates its own spirits - a range of gins, vodka, an agave spirit, and a rum - but is also a market leader in contract distillation, producing various top-selling local gin and spirits brands, including Bloedlemoen, ClemenGold, and Musgrave gins.
Hope Distillery prioritises quality in every aspect: All products are made in small batches, with an incredibly hands-on approach.
Their own products were rebranded in 2019, with a fresh new look that encapsulated the understated but sophisticated spirit of the products and the people who passionately produce them.
You can visit the Distillery to purchase their gins and other spirits during working hours. The Distillery Tasting Room, overlooking the Distillery floor, is open Wednesday to Saturday afternoons, and they will soon be launching a classic cocktail bar in the same space which will operate on Friday and Saturday evenings. Alternatively, the products are available to order online, through the Distillery website.
Keep an eye on their social media pages for events as well as for news of the cocktail bar experience.
