On 3rd March 2011, BIB team members took to the streets of Jozi for the 8th Annual J.P Morgan Corporate Challenge. The 5.6km race embodies ‘teamwork, camaraderie and community’ – much like the core values that form a large part of Barker Insurance Brokers. The global event takes place as far as Singapore, Frankfurt, New York, Boston and London, encouraging healthy competition and a feeling of pride amongst colleagues.
Amongst the 12,395 entrants from 348 companies were Rhett, Tessa, Lloyd, Sally, Bev, Roscoe, Deon, Lucille, Louise, Leanne, Crystal and even Kim who took time out from her new mommy duties – all for a good cause.
In addition to the ‘Teaming Up For A Greener Tomorrow’ initiative which ensures ‘green’ methods are used throughout the race, the JPMorgan Chase Foundation will do their share to give back to the community. A donation will be made on behalf of the Corporate Challenge to LEAP Science and Maths School; a collection of three independent high schools in Cape Town and Johannesburg serving the specific communities of Langa, Gugulethu and Alexandra with a fourth school opening in 2011 to serve the community of Diepsloot.
Our two mixed JP Morgan teams came 18th and 29th in the Mixed category…And our ladies came 33rd in the Female category. After crossing the finish line, teams partied it up in hospitality marquees throughout the Wanderers Club with entertainment from South African band Flash Republic. Overall the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge ended in spirited, motivated BIB team members with ideas for next years creatively branded T-shirts already in the works!
