Why is my car taking so long to repair?

“WHY IS MY CAR TAKING SO LONG TO REPAIR?!?!”

This is becoming a daily cry into the battered ears of our claims staff.

Even Toyota, who were always tops in supplying parts, and who at one time had a huge warehouse in Marlborough, which was always packed with new parts, have down-scaled drastically.  They are now simply unable to meet the demand for new parts, without unreasonable delays.

Unacceptable delays on accident repairs to Korean, Japanese, British, American and (oh my goodness, the worst of the lot), French cars, are being experienced.

But the general public and the insurance industry have no option other than to accept the situation!

A thumbs up to the German makes.  They will fly the parts in at no extra cost – (but perhaps the costs are built into their quotations?). The delay is then approximately 3 days.

In most cases the client has included the car hire facility in his/her comprehensive motor cover, so who suffers the cost of these prolonged delays?

The cost impact is on all parties involved -

  • The Insurers who have to pay out the maximum benefit for car hire

  • The client whose claims ratio is affected and, as a result, his premium.

  • The repairer who suffers cash flow problems in payment delays.

Sadly, the situation is what it is. Our Barker Claims Team do their utmost best to ensure that all claims are processed as fast as possible to avoid any inconvenience to our clients, unfortunately some things are  just out of our control.
